The Eyre Eye Centre Story

“People in rural communities deserve the highest quality medical care. It’s important to deliver that level of care right here in the community where it is accessible to all”

Elise and Phil have always aimed to use their expertise as Optometrists to  provide the best in primary eye health and vision care for the rural communities of the Eyre Peninsula.

Elise first joined Michael Burnside’s Optometry practice back in 1993 as a graduate optometrist. She subsequently practiced in Adelaide, Brisbane and Townsville before returning to Port Lincoln in 1998 with soon to be husband and Optometrist Phil Clem. Phil and Elise worked hard to grow and expand the practice, and in 2002 the practice was renamed "Eyre Eye Centre” with a clear vision for the practice which was to be the centre for all vision and eye health related needs.

In 2010 Elise and Phil undertook extensive renovations to the Port Lincoln practice. The renovations took 4 months to completely transform the practice from a 2 room practice with no specialty rooms to a three consulting room practice with purpose built equipment and work areas. The practice was architecturally designed by Damien McQuillan, who was freshly back from Germany at that time. The extensive cabinetry and fit out was constructed by Paul Harders. The innovative renovation certainly brought a fresh feel to Liverpool Street and the practice was officially opened in May 2010 by Ophthalmologist Dr Michael Lane.

The group now includes highly equipped practices in Whyalla and Ceduna, as well as undertaking visiting clinics in rural towns across the Eyre Peninsula. The practice also has two new optometry partners, Tamra Karolewicz and Craig Farmer, who share the same passion for delivering expert eye care to our rural communities.

At the end of the day, our story remains the same - we are passionate about improving the vision and lives of our communities, by providing exceptional quality eye care and eye wear, and an outstanding experience for our patients. We invest in technology and our people, and strive to maintain our leadership in the profession.
